Show up, grab a coffee (the coffee is actually pretty good!), and have a natter and network with the WordPress community in and around Manchester.

For people who want to get in earlier, feel free to come to the venue early. We’re at a hotel so the general hotel space will already be open. You can hang out at their on-site coffee shop. There’s lots of lovely spots to sit down and check in with work before the event starts. You can also meander as you might bump into other early birds hanging out at the venue too.

Super Secret Keynote Event

This is still a secret, and will dominate the morning. No I’m still not going to share what it is. Hopefully it lives up to expectation. Your lead organiser is getting very nervous about it.

Afternoon Session Planning

Before lunch we’ll have a session where we plan the afternoon sessions – this is done in a Barcamp style where the rest of the day will be planned. So come with ideas! I’ve got a few tables I would like to run, and there will be representatives from the Polyglot teams should session should people want to contribute to WordPress. Read more about it here.

Lunch with Future Friends

We’re not serving lunch – you can read lunch suggestions here – however if you’re attending a WordCamp for the first time, and not familiar with Manchester or the surrounding area, why don’t you come to our Lunch with Future Friends Session?

Held over lunch, it’s an informal lunch meetup where you can meet, chat and just get to know the WordPress community a bit better. We’re a friendly bunch.

Afternoon:

Discussion Sessions

The afternoon will be dedicated to the discussion sessions. These will be hour long sessions where people can meet, chat and mingle about the topics discussed. Not for you? That’s fine. We’ve plenty of space to catch up with work or use a flash of inspiration to update your main blog. I think 88×31 buttons are cool, add a few. Maybe add a guestbook!

We’ve a number of rooms in the venue, here’s a guide to each space.

Storehouse

The main room is the Storehouse, this is where the keynote event will be, and will be arranged in tables. Think like a wedding breakfast setting, but with less bad speeches. Honest.

Co-Working Space

Upstairs will be the co-working space. If you’ve ever attended MWUG in the last few years, it’s all the tables and chairs area next to where we meet. There’s plenty of plugs and space to stretch out and chatter.

We will be using the co-working space to hold two discussion sessions. One discussion on the sofas, and one on a selection of co working tables.

Green Room

The green room is a small, boardroom like room that probably suits active collaboration on a project. Fancy getting a plugin idea over the line? Want to speak with folks and talk through a problem you are having? Come along to the green room and get it done.

Yellow Room – Happy Anti-social Space

Our Yellow Room is our designated happy anti-social space. Need to just switch off from us for a bit? No problem. Head to the yellow room and enjoy the calm environment. Please be aware, this space is not quiet. You can hear everything around you – but if you enter the space, it is expected that you are anti-social.

Closing Remarks & Social Events

At 4:30pm we’ll be having our closing remarks, where we draw down the close on WordCamp Manchester, and the co-organisers make a solemn vow (that lasts approximately 2 weeks) to never to organise another WordCamp again.

There is no official after party, and we don’t know of any event taking place, but a few folks will be going for a wander around Manchester’s trendy Oxford Road/Canal Street areas to continue the conversations.

Can’t Go? No problemo!

We understand life can get in the way, so if you can’t come along, then that’s totally fine. We are able to refund tickets until 31st October (so tomorrow) – you can do it with a link in your ticket. We’ll see you at the next one!

Hopefully that answers all questions and how the event will work, but if you’re still after anything, then please ask away either in the comments or drop us an email.

With WordCamp Manchester one week today (yes, your lead organiser is not stressing in the slightest) we thought we’d share just exactly what to expect on the day and each session.
